The Blythe Beanie September 11, 2018

Blythe is a name that means "Cheerful/Carefree" and I just love the sound of that.  These word are the best way to describe the combination of mock cables and popcorn/bobble stitch.  It is also the best way I would describe my sweet Sofia! Happy, carefree, and cheerful!

The hubby says to expect a cooler winter this year. We're ready! Are you? The Blythe Beanie is going to be perfect for keeping Sofia's noggin nice and toasty while playing at school! I hope you enjoy making this for your kiddo!

MATERIALS:

(Heavier) Worsted Weight (4) yarn. I used Denim In Color (pink) by Yarn BeeUS 6 (4.5mm) 16" circular US 8 (5.0mm) 16" circularUS 8 (5.0mm) double points or longer circulars for magic loop One stitch markerSPECIAL STITCH: 

This patter utilizes a  Three Stitch Popcorn Bobble.

 Instructions for said stitch are as follows..

On the RS Step 1: Insert your working needle into the first stitch on your main needle knitwise and knit one. Leave the stitch on the needle. Step 2: Move your working yarn to the front and purl one into the same stitch. Step 3: Move your working yarn to the back and knit one into the same stitch. On the WS Step 4: Insert your working needle into all three stitches purlwise and purl three together.

ABBREVIATIONS:

K- knit

P- purl

K2tog- knit two together

PM- place marker

MB- make bobble (popcorn stitch)

Sl1- slip one

PSSO- pass slipped stitch over

YO- yarn over

RS- right side of work

WS- wrong side of work

KW- knit wise

PW- purl wise 

GAUGE:

5 stitches x 5 rows= 1 inch

SIZE: Toddler- 12 months to 3 years old Child: 4- 10 year old

BRIM:

Cast on 64(72) stitches on your US 6 needles using the Long Tail Method. Join in the round being careful not to twist. Place marker beginning of each round to keep track of rounds. 

Rounds 1-20: K1, P1 to end of round (forms a 1x1 ribbing)

MAIN BODY:

Switch to the US 8 circulars. Place marker beginning of each round to keep track of rounds. 

Round 1: Knit all stitches

Round 2: *k3, p1, k1, mb, k1, p1 to end of round

Round 3: *k3, p1 to end of round 

Round 4: *k3, p1, mb, k1, mb, p1 to end of round

Round 5: *k3, p1 to end of round

Round 6: *k3, p1, k1, mb, k1, p1 to end of round

Round 7: *sl1 (kw), {k1, yo, k1}, psso the {k1, yo, k1} that you just made, p1, k3, p1 to end of round

Repeat rounds 2-7 three (four) more times. Hat should measure 8(9) inches from bottom to top (brim unfolded). 

DECREASE:

Switch to your US 8 double point needles or longer US8 circulars (for magic loop). 

Round 1: Knit all

Round 2-4: k2tog to end of round (leaving you with 9 stitches) 

Cut an 8 inch tail. Pull through remaining nine stitches. Gently pull to close. Weave in ends and add pom pom (optional)..
